Drill Rod

Our impressive inventory of drill rod includes seven standard grades of material W-1, O-1, A-2, S-7, D-2, H-13, M-2, and 304L –– in more than 1,600 standard diameters (including metric) in 3, 6, and 12 foot lengths. You’ll find that difficult-to-locate lettered and numbered sizes of drill rod, as well as many cold drawn flats and squares, are available right from stock.

Our products’ superior finish has no texture or gouging and has a 16 ra finish. It is the same superior quality you have come to expect from us. No one can match our quality, traceability and super tight tolerances of +/-.0005.

The very high polish on Precision Marshall drill rod allows it to be utilized without the need for further expensive grinding or polishing. Because our ground and polished drill rod is guaranteed to be 100% free of decarburization, seams, laps, pits and other surface imperfections, heat treatment can confidently be undertaken without further metal removal.

Dimensional accuracy is very closely controlled within narrow limits. Precision Marshall drill rod is guaranteed to the limits shown in the PDF listed below. Machines can be set up for working to a certain tolerance with confidence that there will be no variation.

A modern annealing furnace and instrumentation produce finely-controlled microstructures that are consistent lot-to-lot. Precision Marshall drill rod has a guaranteed 90% minimum spheroidization. This, coupled with closely controlled processes, assures uniform machining and response to heat treatment.

Machining properties and consistent response to heat treatment are obtained through careful control of chemical analysis. Identification of each production lot is carefully maintained and a certified chemical analysis can be supplied upon request.

All ends of our ground and polished drill rod in 3/8” through 3” diameter are saw-cut and chamfered or deburred. This protects other lengths from scratching, facilitates set-ups and ensures safety in handling.

Smaller diameters are accurately and precisely cut on automatic die-cutters that provide a precise clean end cut.

Precision heat-treated and centerless ground rounds are available in three different grades for applications ranging from punches to special cutters to mandrels. Hardened and ground rounds are available in M2 and M42 high-speed grades and also available in A2 tool and die steel.
